Denzel Washington as Malcolm X

Denzel Washington earned his third Oscar nomination for stepping into the role of African-American Muslim leader, political figure and human rights activist Malcolm X in the 1992 biopic named after its subject. Directed by Spike Lee and co-starring Angela Bassett, the film chronicles the rise of Malcolm Little, son of a Nebraska preacher, through to his assassination in 1965 when he had become a prominent influencer. Denzel layers his towering performance with a fiery intensity and fearless strength that captivates and inspires.
