Gerard Butler, best known for his role as King Leonidas in the film 300, was born and raised in Paisley, Scotland. As a boy, he was captivated by movies, so his mother encouraged her son’s love and took him on several auditions. But at 16, he decided acting was not the right choice. After graduating close to the top of his high school class, he studied law at the University of Glasgow. He was President of the Law Society and graduated with honors. He joined a law firm in Edinburgh, but finally came to the conclusion that acting was his true calling.
