Downton Abbey Library

The red sofas in the large, majestic 75-foot long library are actually used on Downton Abbey, although most other furniture is put away during filming. All the fine china and other objects seen on the show are props, to ensure the antique heirlooms that have been in the home for years or possibly centuries aren't broken. If you enter the library from the Entrance Hall, you'll first go through a smaller library that features a portrait by Thomas Hudson of a little boy in a dress. The little boy is John Acland (whose daughter married the second Earl of Carnarvon). Directly at the opposite end from the smaller room is a door disguised as a book shelf (visible in this photo), which leads into the music room.
