Patrick Bateman (Christian Bale) is a sociopath in American Psycho (2000). He feigns emotions for as long as needed while he strives for status and wealth, consistently picking off victims at every urge. In this horrifying film adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis's book of the same name, we see Bateman kill a slew of men and women in fits of psychotic rage, but by the end we're left wondering if he did it at all. He confesses the murders to his lawyer via a frantic voicemail message, but his lawyer doesn't believe him, thinking Bateman is playing a practical joke. Bateman is astounded at this surprising turn of events and is left to contemplate his violent existence.
