Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (2017) – Comedy, Crime and Drama

On the other side of the Atlantic you’ll find a pair of brothers in Ireland that in my mind, can match the genre-blending efforts of the Coen Brothers. Those brothers would be John Michael McDonagh and Martin McDonagh, with the latter winning the Best Picture Oscar in 2018 for Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. Joel Coen must have recognized something similar, as he helped convince his wife Frances McDormand to take the leading role in this film that sees her play a mother seeking closure on the murder of her daughter, who goes about advertising the ineffectiveness of the police investigation on the three billboards outside her town.
