RED (2010)

This 2010 action-comedy film is loosely based on a comic of the same name written by Warren Ellis with art by Cully Hamner, published by WildStorm imprint Homage Comics, both of which are owned by DC Comics. Whereas the film leaned into more comedic territory, the comic is another matter. Starting with the name change of Peter Moses to Frank Moses, to turning the title of the comic into an acronym, there are very little similarities beyond the basic premise of Moses being the target of assassination. Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich, Helen Mirren, and Mary-Louise Parker’s characters are all original to the film, with none of them even loosely based on someone in the comics.
