The Matrix – Lilly and Lana Wachowski

Sci-fi/fantasy flick The Matrix (1999), directed by Lilly and Lana Wachowski, received a great acclaim from both critics and audiences for their innovative visual effects and cinematography. Starring Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne and Carrie-Anne Moss, the film is set in a dystopian future and won not only four Academy Awards, but spawned two sequels. Interestingly, the sisters were born brothers, but from childhood, felt they were female. Lana began transitioning in the early 2000s, while Lilly announced in 2016 that she was also a transgender woman.
