Oldest winner in an acting category

At the 2012 Oscars ceremony, Canadian Christopher Plummer became the oldest actor to win an Academy Award, for his poignant portrayal of an elderly man coming to terms with his sexuality and cancer diagnosis in Beginners. With his triumph at age 82 in the Best Supporting Actor category, Plummer surpassed previous record holder Jessica Tandy. She had laid claim to the record since 1990 when she picked up the Best Actress trophy for Driving Miss Daisy at the age of 80.
