Only person to win for acting and writing

Sharp, charming, quick-witted and charismatic are some of the qualities people often associate with Emma Thompson (and rightly so, she's entirely divine). But what many don't know is that Emma is the only individual to receive Oscars for both acting and writing. In 1993, the Brit beat Catherine Deneuve (Indochine), Mary McDonnell (Passion Fish), Michelle Pfeiffer (Love Field) and Susan Sarandon (Lorenzo's Oil) for the Best Actress trophy. She was honored for her work in the period drama Howard's End. To make history, though, she picked up an Academy Award three years later for writing the Sense and Sensibility screenplay.
