Back to the Future (1985)

During the DeLorean time machine’s first test run in Back to the Future, Doc Brown and Marty McFly stand directly in the speeding car’s path. When it disappears in time, Doc seems genuinely surprised, like he was expecting a vastly different outcome. This theory claims Doc Brown wanted to kill himself after a lifetime of failed inventions, and purposefully stood in the way of the car, intending to meet his demise. (Why he pulled Marty into the mix is anyone’s guess.) However, Doc Brown actor Christopher Lloyd has since refuted this theory and claimed it was actually the opposite: “He knew what he invented and he was very confident…He had failures but he just kept on going.”
