The Deer Hunter (1978)

This five-time Oscar winner brings the horrors of post-traumatic stress disorder (or PTSD) to the screen in startling fashion. The Deer Hunter follows a group of friends as they prepare for the Vietnam War, go off to battle, and return home to small town Pennsylvania entirely tormented by the atrocities they witnessed. The top-notch cast includes Robert De Niro, Meryl Streep (in her first Oscar-nominated role), and Christopher Walken (in the part that earned him his sole golden statuette).
