With La La Land a success amongst critics and audiences alike and Damien Chazelle behind the camera, it's no surprise the director is already being called a winner, especially considering he also took home the Golden Globe.

Should win: Denis Villeneuve (Arrival) — Anyone who's seen Arrival will understand why Denis Villeneuve is nominated for Best Director. Bringing such complicated subject matter to life while still making it understandable and beautiful at the same time is no easy task.
