In 1974, 10-year-old Tatum O'Neal won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her work in Paper Moon (1973). She became the youngest winner ever in a competitive category. The period drama, which was Tatum's first film, starred her dad Ryan O'Neal and she landed the role after director Peter Bogdanovich, her father's friend, came to the house for a visit and met Tatum. Ryan and Tatum have also shared the screen in Nickelodeon (1976).
