Coraline (2009)

Coraline journeys through a secret passage in her home and finds herself in an alternate land where button-eyed beings called “Other Mother” and “Other Father” chase her with a sewing needle and thread, intending to replace her eyes with buttons, too. The stop-motion imagery in the movie is deliciously freaky on its own. But we’ve got to give props to the prospective eye removal scene. This heart-pounding thrill ride made us hold our breaths and agonize, sitting on the edge of our seats and wondering if Coraline would be able to escape her button fate.
