Dumb and Dumber (1994)/Dumb and Dumber To (2014) – 20 years

Most comedy sequels happen within a few years of the original film. In the odd case that one comes decades later there is the risk of characters and stories feeling out of place in more contemporary settings. The Farrelly Brothers’ original 1994 hit starring Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels was definitely a product of its time, and it showed in their long delayed sequel Dumb & Dumber To released in 2014. Even as the two actors returned to their roles and brought the same energy, the gap in time between the original and the sequel only served to show how dated the film and its characters are.
