Super Troopers (2001)/Super Troopers 2 (2018) – 17 years

When Super Troopers came out in 2001 it was a modest success. Produced on a mere $3 million, it went on to earn over $18 million and gained a cult audience along the way. Director Jay Chandrasekhar and his Broken Lizard production company threw out the idea of doing a sequel 14 years later by starting an Indiegogo campaign to fund the new project with a goal of $2 million. They easily surpassed the goal and the sequel was green lit. However, Chandrasekhar refused to begin production until the actors were all the same weight they'd been in the original film for continuity, and with complications surrounding a release date and living up to the promises detailed in the Indiegogo campaign, Super Troopers 2 would eventually get released 17 years after the original.
