Solaris (2002)

Adapted from Stanislaw Lem's 1961 classic sci-fi novel, Steven Soderbergh's Solaris follows a psychologist (George Clooney) as he sets out to investigate the bizarre behavior of a group of scientists on an isolated space station orbiting a mysterious planet. Viola Davis, Natascha McElhone and John Cho — who would get better acquainted with space in the Star Trek films — co-star in the film. Sidenote: Lem's book was first adapted for the screen by Andrei Tarkovsky in 1972's Solaris.
