Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016) – $532.2M

After purchasing the Star Wars brand from George Lucas in 2012, Disney had big plans for the franchise moving forward. On top of the sequel trilogy that was set to begin in 2015 with The Force Awakens, Disney had high hopes of expanding the film franchise beyond the Skywalker saga with a series of spin-off films. Those included an origin story for Han Solo, a solo film for bounty hunter Boba Fett, and an expanded take on how the Rebels got their hands on the Death Star plans in Rogue One, the first to be released. The finished product proved to be a second massive hit, earning over $532 million domestically and over a billion worldwide.
