The Pink Panther (1963)

No offense to the remake (and its completely unnecessary sequel), but the original is almost always better. In a comedy that has enough deceit to be a soap opera, a somewhat clueless French detective, Inspector Clouseau (Peter Sellers), leaves Paris for Switzerland on a mission to protect the extremely rare Pink Panther jewel from infamous jewel thief ‘The Phantom’. ‘The Phantom’ turns out to be playboy Sir Charles Lytton (David Niven), whose nephew George (Robert Wagner) also plans to steal the jewel and frame ‘The Phantom’ -- he doesn't know that it's really his uncle. Presumably the only person who knows what is going on is Clouseau’s wife, who also happens to be Charles’ lover and accomplice. Confused? Yeah, we thought so.
