Duncan Jones' follow-up to Moon brings him out of the indie scene and into Hollywood with this complex thriller. A misleadingly dark, layered story—starring Jake Gyllenhaal as a reality/time-hopping protagonist forced to experience the same eight minutes over and over again—Source Code takes its initial premise, follows it through to its logical conclusion and then whacks you over the head with all of its surreal and unpleasant implications in the final moments. Its blink-and-you-miss-it, bittersweet ending retroactively paints the entire film in a disturbing light that gives this one a unique feel.
