Archie Bunker

After years of perfect dads on shows like Father Knows Best and Leave it to Beaver, Archie Bunker came as a shock -- albeit a very funny one -- to TV audiences when All in the Family debuted in 1968. The sitcom broke boundaries in regards to race, religion and gender thanks to Archie's big mouth -- he managed to offend everyone. He called his son-in-law (Rob Reiner) a meathead and referred to his wife Edith (Jean Stapleton) as “Dingbat.” Played by Carroll O’Connor, Archie was a pro at hogging the television and blowing a gasket if anyone sat in his favorite chair.
