Rough Night vs Girls Trip

Time difference: 5 weeks apart.

Summer 2017 was one to be had for laughs with girls’ nights as Hollywood offered up two ensemble female-centric comedies. Sony once again participated in this battle of twin films with their female remake of the 1998 black comedy Very Bad Things to compete with Universal’s Girls Trip. Both films feature groups of women on getaway trips who get into hilarious hijinks. Girls Trip proved to be the bigger hit with critics and audiences, earning an impressive $115 million domestically, compared to Rough Night’s $22 million. Girls Trip would also launch Tiffany Haddish into the mainstream.
