Constance Wu and Henry Golding as Rachel Chu & Nick Young – Crazy Rich Asians (2018)

Probably the most lavish and relevant pop culture film of the past decade for Asian representation, Jon M. Chu’s adaptation of the book Crazy Rich Asians was more than a typical rom-com with an Asian cast. Social values and cultural prejudices bring to light a side of the Asian American experience that often isn’t given enough attention. There is a particular scene original to the film that highlights the cultural differences between Contance Wu's Rachel Chu and Michelle Yeoh's Eleanor Young, which is the scene of the two women playing Mahjong. The metaphorical meaning of their game takes some understanding of Mahjong, and you can find articles about it online, but adds another layer to the scene.
