Presidential prospect slams Natalie Portman for pregnancy

American presidential prospect Mike Huckabee has criticized Oscar winner Natalie Portman, saying she’s glamorizing out-of-wedlock pregnancy. During her Oscar acceptance speech on Sunday, Portman thanked the father of her unborn child, Benjamin Millepied, for giving her “my most important role of my life.” Huckabee said the “most wonderful gift” Millepied could have given the actress “would be a wedding ring! And it just seems to me that sending that kind of message is problematic. People see a Natalie Portman who boasts, ‘we’re not married but we’re having these children and they’re doing just fine’,” Huckabee told radio host Michael Medved on Monday. “I think it gives a distorted image that yes, not everybody hires nannies, and caretakers, and nurses. Most single moms are very poor, uneducated, can’t get a job, and if it weren’t for government assistance, their kids would be starving to death and never have health care. And that’s the story that we’re not seeing, and it’s unfortunate that we glorify and glamorize the idea of out-of-wedlock children.” Calling Portman’s pregnancy “troubling,” Huckabee added that there “aren’t a lot of single moms out there making millions out there for being in a movie.”

i think the message that’s really being sent here is this pompous retard should learn to mind his business and the real problems facing the country and stop comitting political suicide….but then again keep it up douche bag because the good ol’ U.S.A. has already elected enough fools like you out of ignorance

    What a d*ck
    marriage is over rated anyway.
I agree ^^, there are worse issues then this.

Mike Huckabee’s lost his mind. First he tried to cast doubt regarding Obama’s citizenship, and now this BS. I’m starting to suspect he didn’t come from a conventional family. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if, at least, one of his parents had hooves and horns.

Portman is responsible adult and she can do whatever she wants. She is having her baby and she has the means to be able to provide for her child whether or not she marries the father of her child.
Mike Huckabee and along with most Republicans must give up on this illusion of America that they believe they had in the Reagan years. It never existed and was an illusion that now many Americans are realizing has severely damaged their country.
Being a Canadian I look at American in amazement that many of them are just so stupid they are and they cling on to this illusion on having the perfect American life (with perfect family, job, and house) but for many, if not most people, it does not exist.
Yes Americans Gay people exist and they can raise families and they deserve the right to marry and be in the military.
Instead of helping the rich people get richer & richer perhaps maybe you should be putting people in power who want to make their country better (by having universal health care and better education system in place) and stop listening to these Witch Doctors like Huchabee, Palin, and Linbaugh. They are selling the public on ideas that they cant deliver and will only do more harm to the average joe. Socialism is not an evil word and I dont know why so many people who claim to be religious say otherwise. To want to help your fellow man by sharing the wealth to those who do not have it I thought was the message that Jesus was teaching! They are speaking on behave of the rich people who want to take all your money and dont give a crap about the country.
Wake up Americans because all other countries just look at you and shake their head in disbelief on how stupid you guys are!

seriously, who is he to make a statement like that? who’s to judge, maybe she doesn’t beleive in marriage, this is her life, her body and her business, really is it our business what goes on in her life? NO….

The problem’s most ultra-right-wing Republicans want to make a woman’s body their business (from abortion issues to sexual orientation to parenting). It’s like they missed the newsletter that we’re officially out of the dark ages.

While they’re wasting time oppressing women they could actually focus on real issues including: equal pay, making education attainable for single parents, and putting more focus on childhood poverty.

Of coarse we know that won’t happen. Republicans like Huckabee are fairly predictable scumbags. They’re always eager to give the rich a hand-job, and equally eager to take a dump on the poor… it’s a disgusting analogy I know… but these are pretty disgusting people.

That’s disgusting, although I do personally believe in marriage before children, you know what, it doesn’t always work out that way. My mom had to look after us all by herself and no, she wasn’t rich and it was hard sometimes but she sure as hell wasn’t “uneducated” and she wouldn’t have just rode along on some government assistance check. Ignorant prick.

Why doesn’t he attack Angelina Jolie. She has six children out of wedlock.

  9. nobody important • March 6, 2011 @ 8:45 AM

… because Angelina Jolie would probably kick his ass (deservedly so).

The more I think about Huckafukk’s comments the angrier I get. How can someone eyeing the presidency be that stupid?

I applaud Huckabee. No one wants to stand up for what’s right these days. It’s not right to bring illegitimate children into the world. The guy is disrespecting Natalie and the unborn child by not marrying her. I hope they do the right thing eventually. Better late than never.

good thing we have andrea to tell us what’s right.

  12. nobody important • March 7, 2011 @ 1:27 AM

Andrea were you dropped as a child?

To Mr. Huckabee and Andrea: W.T.F.?

This guy needs to stop living in the 1920s and realize that it’s the 21st Century. Millions of people have kids without being married! It’s a common thing. By the way, I don’t think anyone using the term “out of wedlock” anymore.

  15. Amanda • March 8, 2011 @ 11:03 AM

You’re right Allee. Very common indeed.

  16. Red • March 8, 2011 @ 11:14 AM

I was born out of wedlock and got teased about it a lot. This really sucks for the kids sometimes. Ok, don’t get married but at least have a stable environment for the child.

    He’s absolutely correct.

I used to admire her back when she only took wholesome roles but she sold out. Wouldn’t watch her movies even if you paid me.
