Presidential prospect slams Natalie Portman for pregnancy

American presidential prospect Mike Huckabee has criticized Oscar winner Natalie Portman, saying she’s glamorizing out-of-wedlock pregnancy. During her Oscar acceptance speech on Sunday, Portman thanked the father of her unborn child, Benjamin Millepied, for giving her “my most important role of my life.” Huckabee said the “most wonderful gift” Millepied could have given the actress “would be a wedding ring! And it just seems to me that sending that kind of message is problematic. People see a Natalie Portman who boasts, ‘we’re not married but we’re having these children and they’re doing just fine’,” Huckabee told radio host Michael Medved on Monday. “I think it gives a distorted image that yes, not everybody hires nannies, and caretakers, and nurses. Most single moms are very poor, uneducated, can’t get a job, and if it weren’t for government assistance, their kids would be starving to death and never have health care. And that’s the story that we’re not seeing, and it’s unfortunate that we glorify and glamorize the idea of out-of-wedlock children.” Calling Portman’s pregnancy “troubling,” Huckabee added that there “aren’t a lot of single moms out there making millions out there for being in a movie.”
