Kidnapping drama Prisoners, starring Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal, scored the top spot at the weekend box office. The film earned $21.4 million and a high Tribute rating of 4.7 stars. Last week’s top film, Insidious:Chapter 2, rolled in to the second position, bringing in $14.5 million and a Tribute rating of 4.6 stars. Crime caper The Family, which opened last week, was bumped to the third spot, garnering $7 million with a Tribute rating of 2.5 stars. Foreign film Instructions Not Included jumped up two places, coming in fourth at the box office. The film earned $5.7 million and a Tribute rating of 4.5. Taking the fifth spot was dance flick newcomer, Battle of the Year. Starring Josh Holloway and Chris Brown, the film opened with $5 million and a rating of 3.4 stars.
Rounding out the top ten were We’re the Millers, Lee Daniels’ The Butler, Riddick, Wizard of Oz and Planes. ~ Marriska Fernandes
