Project X and Chronicle to get sequels

Sequels for the successful low-budget films Chronicle and Project X have been green lit, which is not surprising after their strong box office performances. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Michael Bacall, co-writer of the screenplay of Project X, is working on the treatment for the follow-up to the teenage-party themed film. Todd Phillips and Joel Silver are producing. Meanwhile, 20th Century Fox has signed on Chronicle‘s screenwriter, Max Landis, to pen the draft for the sequel, reports Deadline. Chronicle is the story of three young men who discover they have extraordinary abilities and the choices they make as they learn more about their powers. The film had a production budget of $12 million but has already made more than $100 million worldwide. Similarly, Project X‘s budget was approximately $12 million, but it made $21 million at the box office during its first weekend. It seems studios have hit a gold mine with the found-footage films and they are ready to take advantage of it. ~Rodrigo Cokting

I have yet to see either of these films, and will probably only catch Chronicle when it is released on dvd/bluray.

Olive I found Hangover:Part 2 to be a decently entertaining film on its own, but as a sequel(yes) it didn’t really bring anything new to the table.
