Rachel McAdams cast as Holmes’ love interest

Rachel McAdamsCanadian actress Rachel McAdams (The Notebook) has been cast as Irene Adler, Sherlock Holmes’ love interest in Guy Ritchie‘s new film about the famous detective, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Adler appeared in just one novel by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle — 1891’s A Scandal In Bohemia — however, she will likely become a recurring character in the series if the first film is successful. Robert Downey Jr. has already been confirmed as Sherlock, and Jude Law is playing Holmes’ sidekick, Dr. Watson. Sherlock Holmes is scheduled to begin filming next week for a 2010 release.

I like Robert Downey…but playing Holmes?? I think the roles should be reverced and Jude should play Holmes and Robert Dr. W.

I think I agree. Robert Downey, good actor, but not at all my idea of Holmes. Even Jude law…tho adorable doesn’t strike me as sidekick Dr. W. How about Ian McKidd as Holmes with Ray Stevenson as Watson. They were great in Rome…their Butch & Sundance comraderie…just might work again! lol…I think Rachel Adams would still be a great love interest!

Guy Ritchie would be a better Holmes than Robert Downey, or Paul Bettany?

Oops, I meant Kevin McKidd not Ian…

Robert Downey as charlie Chaplin…he did a phenominal and passionate portrayal of the famous slapstick comic. I beleive he will add a little siseswept humour to an otherwise dry character. l like Rachel for this too. Wonder if she’ll get the accent down…
