Rats invade weekend box office

RatatouilleThe animated comedy Ratatouille, about a rat who wants to be a chef, debuted at the top of the weekend box office with a gross of $47 million (all figures US), beating out Bruce WillisLive Free or Die Hard, which opened in second place with $33.4 million. Evan Almighty dropped to third with an additional $15 million, for a total of $60.7 million—a disaster, considering it cost $175 million to make. 1408 slipped to fourth place with $10.7 million, while Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer rounded out the top five with $7.4 million.
