Redmond O’Neal back in jail on drug charges

Redmond O'NealRedmond O’Neal, 24, who was sent to jail last year after he was found to be carrying heroin while visiting a friend in prison, was released to an in-patient rehab in Pasadena last September, when Judge Jane Godfrey found that he was “doing extremely well,” and his attorney told People magazine, “Redmond has embraced recovery.” Unfortunately, on December 29 when he returned to the residential treatment center following a 24-hour pass, Redmond tested positive for drugs. “It seems to me you haven’t got a clue as to what recovery means,” Judge Michael Tynan told the young man. “It’s a lifetime commitment. It’s grinding, hard, painful work.” The son of Farrah Fawcett and Ryan O’Neal, Redmond has been struggling with drug addiction since his early teens. Though he was scheduled to be released from rehab this September, he is now back in prison.

I agree, these celebrities need to be accountable for their actions. His mother would be so dissappointed in him, if she were still alive.

drug addiction is very hard to overcome!! Some never overcome it. This time in jail could be for the better or for the worst. Once you’ve started using Heroin, recreational use is pretty much over. Enter Hard core drug addiction. Its now about seperating the men from the boys and Redmond needs to decide which side he wants to be on.
If he deep in his core believes he can use drugs and have a life, he is in for a life of torment and sadness. Redmond needs to see the reality that if he wants a life with some level of happiness; drugs cannot be in the equation. Life is tough enough. Until that epiphany or awakening happens he is in danger. However every day if you’re still living and breathing you have a chance to turn it around. I dont know haow many chances a guy gets in life, thats out of my hands, but a life without drugs? thats in the hands of Redmond. Whenever he is ready, hopefully sooner than later, he has had enough tragedy in his life. I hope he can turn it around. Good Luck Redmond

I don’t consider Redmond a “celebrity”, he’s just the child of 2 celebrities. He hasn’t done anything to become a celeb except inherit his mom’s money…which he now won’t be able to get any of until he tests clean for drugs as stipulated in Farah’s will. Get some freaking willpower! If you can’t do it for yourself, then at least do it for your mother! But, I guess that’s asking too much because he couldn’t do it for her while she was alive, so why would he now that she’s passed? No, he’s no celeb….he’s a LOSER!

Addiction is hard for everyone involed. I’m sure deep down he wants to be able to make his mom proud and do the right thing. It’s just not that easy. However he shouldn’t get a free pass because he’s a celebrities child. He has to suffer the consequence of his actions just like you or I.

Kev & Quinn, you are right, it is hard…but at the same time, just like smoking and drinking, you really have to want to do it. So perhaps he enjoys it, maybe he hasn’t hit bottom yet…but regardless I hope they throw the book at him because what he is doing is WRONG! And Nance the Hanes rep, you are right, he’s not famous, he’s only known as being the idiot son of a famous mother and famous idiot father!

I don’t think Farrah would have been in the least disappointed in his behaviour, I don’t think his father is either. Both Farrah and Ryan had their own addictions and passed it on to their son. All 3 or Ryan’s kids have or had addiction problems and to some degree anger/management problems on top of it all. That tells us all we need to know, children no matter who they belong to where they live are products of their enviroments. Funny people don’t want to believe that the rich white celebs and their kids can be addicted, but funny enough it affects white black brown alike, addiction is addiction no matter the socioeconomical demigraphic. Redmond should be punished, because he breached the rules of his one day release, not because he is addicted. I don’t really see what purpose is served locking him up indefinitely really, it’s obvious he is not ready to healed.

very maturely, compassionately and intelligently said, quinn…

you summed it up perfectly, refraining from taking the far easier holier than thou stone-throwing route…

He doesn’t take his addiction or the law seriously and this is told by the smurk on his face while being escorted away with hands cuffed behind his back. What does it take for some people?

Farrah Fawcett should have never left her husband Lee Majors for Ryan O’Neal then she wouldn’t have ended up with a drug addict for a son.
