Reese Witherspoon calls Renee Zellweger criticism ‘cruel’

Reese Witherspoon is not a fan of the public’s obsession over Renée Zellweger’s face. At a roundtable interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the Wild actress became heated when asked about the attention Renée Zellweger has received over her recent appearance. “It’s horrible. It’s cruel and rude and disrespectful, and I can go on and on and on,” she ranted. “It bothers me immensely.” Reese went on to talk about her feelings on how the media portrays women and sets them against each other, particularly on their physical appearance. “Why do they have to tear women down? And why do we have to tear other women down to build another woman up? It drives me crazy,” Reese said. “It’s all just a judgment and assault that I don’t — look, men are prey to it as well. I just don’t think it’s with the same sort of ferocity.”

Fellow interviewee Patricia Arquette also had some strong words to say about paparazzi that follow her and her daughter while out in public. “[A paparazzo] kept following us. And I said, ‘OK, leave us the f— alone.’ And he goes, ‘Nice, mom! Good job!’ I said, ‘I’m teaching my daughter. If a man is following you and you tell him to go away and he doesn’t, you turn around and say, ‘F— you!’ as loud as you can.” ~Kelly Townsend
