Reese Witherspoon never considered herself to be ”America’s Sweetheart.”
The 38-year-old actress, who was charged with disorderly conduct after her husband, Jim Toth, was arrested and charged with DUI (Driving Under the Influence) last year, admits she isn’t a ”sweet” person.
She said: ”I certainly didn’t self-identify as anyone’s sweetheart. I’m friendly, but I don’t think I’m sweet. I’m honest.”
Meanwhile, the blonde beauty credits her best friends, including Cameron Diaz, Naomi Watts and Drew Barrymore, for helping her to heal following her split from ex-husband, Ryan Phillippe, in 2006 after seven years of marriage and with whom she has daughter Ava, 15, and son Deacon, 11.
The Wild star said: ”I am so, so lucky to have girlfriends who, when I was on the floor crying, upset about things that happened in my life, came over, stood me up, put me in the shower, put my clothes on, took my kids to school, brought me dinner. You know? I love my girlfriends, and I protect those relationships fiercely.”
The actress learned a lot from her divorce.
She said: ”I don’t think I realized [in my twenties] that no one else makes you whole. You have to take responsibility for your own happiness.”
Reese, who also has son Tennessee, two, with Hollywood agent Jim, says he has also helped her to accept herself.
She told the January issue of Glamour magazine: ”Well, I have to say a very healing part of my life is my wonderful husband, Jim. It’s really wonderful being with somebody who supports me, who loves me, who is my number-one fan. That is such an incredible experience. You have to be ready for those things. I had to be in a place where I felt all those things about myself.”
