Regis Philbin retiring from ‘Live’

Regis Philbin announced today on his daytime talk show Live With Regis and Kelly that he’s retiring after more than 25 years. He didn’t give a specific date but said he’ll be stepping down from the show around the end of the summer. “I don’t want to alarm anybody,” he annouced, continuing: “This will be my last year on the show. It’s been a long time. It’s been 28 years and it was the biggest thrill of my life to come back to New York, where I grew up as a kid watching TV in the early days, you know, never even dreaming that I would one day have the ability, or whatever it takes, to get in front of the camera and talk to it…There is a time that everything must come to an end for certain people on camera — especially certain old people!” Philbin, who’s 79, has been on television for over 46 years, starting in 1964 with That Regis Philbin Show. His co-host for the past 10 years — Kelly Ripa — told him, “I think I can only speak for America and all of us here when I say it has been a pleasure and a privilege and a dream come true. And I wish I could do something to make you change your mind.”

He’ll be missed, he’s a fixture on daytime TV but at 79, he deserves to relax.

He also just won Guiness award or something like that for the longest running individual on American TV didn’t he? He’s a loveable guy and deserves all his awards and fans.

@Terrence he will definitely be missed, but to still be working at 79 is admirable! I wish him a happy retirement!
