Revolution has largest opening weekend gross for Canadian doc

Revolution, Canadian director Rob Stewart’s award-winning follow-up to the hit film Sharkwater, opened this weekend on the largest number of Canadian screens for any Canadian documentary. The inspiring environmental documentary set a new record for the largest opening weekend gross for a Canadian documentary. It already has won awards and accolades at film festivals worldwide, including Most Popular Environmental Film Award at the Vancouver International Film Festival, Audience Favorite Award at the Victoria Film Festival, Fund for Santa Barbara Social Justice Award at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival and Best Documentary at the Atlantic Film Festival. Revolution was also the runner-up for Best Documentary at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Leading up to Earth Day, the film had impressive pre-release group sales and continues to attract large numbers of moviegoers, students and educators. “The reaction to the film by youth has been amazing,” said Jim Sherry, President and Founder of D Films. “Their enthusiasm and love for the planet is inspiring and we hope that they continue to be ambassadors for the film and its message.” Click here to watch Rob’s appearance on George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight.
