Richard Dawson dies at 79

British born actor/comedian Richard Dawson, who became a star as the host of the game show Family Feud, died Saturday in Los Angeles. Dawson suffered from esophageal cancer, which ended his life at 79. After the news of his death spread, celebrities took to their Twitter accounts and released statements, remembering the actor. “Dawson’s greatest role was playing a game show host. He was able to inject this unique brand of humor into shows like Family Feud,” said Wheel of Fortune host Pat Sajak. “He could be funny and biting, mischievous and playful, but he always respected the game and treated his players with kindness.” Paula Abdul tweeted, “I’m truly saddened by the news of Richard Dawson’s passing. My sincere condolences to his family & friends. Such a great loss… I had the privilege of working with Richard Dawson on a movie I choreographed called Running Man with Arnold Schwarzenegger… Richard Dawson’s family, friends & loved ones are in my thoughts & prayers. This is a truly, truly great loss.” Other celebrities such as Alyssa Milano, Marlee Matlin and Patty Duke also sent their thoughts and condolences to Dawson via Twitter. ~Graeme Mollison
