Ricky Gervais’ fat blast

ricky_gervaisRicky Gervais believes “fat people” are like heroin addicts. The British comic has no sympathy for overweight people because it is their “own fault” they’ve put on weight and they need to be weaned off calorific treats. Discussing whether or not he hates overweight people, he said: “Well, it’s their fault they’re fat. They ate too much. Those are the rules. I got fat because I ate too much. I knew why I was getting fat. I didn’t think I had a tumour up my backside. I thought it was because I ate cheese and pizza every f***ing night. So there’s no point going round feeling sorry for them. It’s like dealing with smack heads. We’ve got to stop them.” Although Ricky — who lost a lot of weight last year — understands how difficult it can be to lose excess pounds, he still finds it funny to include jokes about fat people in his comedy sketches. He told Britain’s GQ magazine: “I do a new routine where I say, ‘I don’t want to make any fat people feel uncomfortable, so next time, buy two seats.’ Are you asking me if I hate fat people? Do I think they eat too much? They eat too much if they want to be thin. If they want to stay fat, they’re eating just the right amount.”

Good for you Rick, way to stick it to them. I can understand where he is coming from. The fact that he was once overweight helps in his argument a lot. Of course, there are people that have conditions that make it harder to lose weight such as Genetics and so forth but the majority of overweight people just eat to much.

I saw a picture of an old friends mother,(when she was about 24) She was very thin and attractive. When i was growing up her weight was very disturbing to me lol. Well, she got divorced when I was in my very early 20’s, and i was a picture of her. I was absolutely stunned, she had lost what i would say was about 200 pounds since the last time i had saw her. As i child i remember how much they would eat, my friend was also very obese and had developed the knack to shove one whole, large, pizza slice into his mouth.

I too have had a small problem with weight gain, though not to a huge extent. I developed wrist problems and wasn’t exercising at all anymore and eating A LOT to replace it. I quickly started gaining weight and my washboard abs very soon covered and not visible lol. And i know its not funny but i have since corrected the problem but it took a lot of work and I am still struggling with it. I could only imagine if i had 200 pounds to lose and not the extra 30.

Maybe people should think about why others might over eat and not just assume it is bad habits but a range of more complex feelings and thoughts that they are grappling with. No one ‘just over eats’. There is a guilt and shame cycle at for people who are less confident than Ricky Gervais and this type of abuse doesn’t encourage weight loss it exacerbates weight gain.
