Rihanna’s dad tells her she’s too fat

By Alexandra Heilbron on March 8, 2012 | 43 Comments

Rihanna, 24, has dropped a few pounds recently and her father, Ronald Fenty, credits himself for her new look. He told Heat magazine that when he saw his famous daughter last August he told her she’d gained weight: “I actually thought she was a little fat the last time I saw her. But when I saw her at this year’s Grammys, I thought she was back to her normal size. I used to joke with her, ‘Robyn [Rihanna’s real name], you’re getting too fat.’ But I think she’s fine. I think she looked excellent, as everyone saw, at the Grammys. She’s dieting, she’s working out.” Ronald also spoke out about the fact that Rihanna may be seeing abusive ex-boyfriend Chris Brown, despite his brutal assault on her in 2009, saying, “Chris is a nice guy and everybody’s entitled to make mistakes in their life — God knows how many I’ve made. She’s her own woman now.” Rihanna makes her big screen debut in Battleship, opening May 18.

Ahhh… so now we know why she’s so f**k*d in the head.

  2. cindy • March 8, 2012 @ 12:15 AM

Reality is that were all humans. Were built to make mistakes and have perfections in our lives. Rihanna is one of the most grown mature woman in society. She isn’t perfect celebrity, so are many other celebrities and human beings on this planet earth. But she is 100% human being.

  3. Sam • March 8, 2012 @ 12:28 AM

Why can’t people family members tell other family member’s they’re getting fat? Rihanna is a grown woman she can take it; it’s her dad. Who wants to see their children get fat and unhealthy??? It’s just a recipe for health problems in the future.

  4. Kim • March 8, 2012 @ 9:07 AM

I could not care less that her father said she was getting fat. Maybe she was. But her father then goes on to say Chris Brown is a nice guy and everybody’s entitled to make mistakes” ?? Are you kidding me? Chris BEAT HER UP. He didn’t hit her. He didn’t slap her. He didn’t call her names (although I’m sure he probably did). He BEAT HER UP. No parent should EVER side with the guy who beat their daughter. It is a sure sign that her father thinks it was okay for him to do that to her. That makes HIM an abuser as well because he is telling his daughter that she has no value. I worry for Rihanna that the abuse she gets from the men in her life will eventually end her life. She needs to learn how to value herself as a person before it is too late.

  5. Al • March 8, 2012 @ 9:34 AM

Sounds like a picture perfect dad…”Take your abusive boyfriend back so he can beat you again…P.S. you’re fat!”

  6. Hairbag • March 8, 2012 @ 10:09 AM

the whole family is SICK Nows lets get back to REAL NEWS…………..

  7. David • March 8, 2012 @ 10:21 AM

@cindy, what the heck are you talking about? How in the world would you know if Rihanna is one of the “most grown mature women in society”. That’s the whole problem with celebrity. People like you would eat their garbage just because they are in the limelight.

  8. Tina • March 8, 2012 @ 11:14 AM

It’s not great that he is criticizing her weight. It is even worse that he is apparently excusing Chris Brown’s behaviour. If any boyfriend of mine would have ever beat me, my dad would have to be tied down to keep from going out and completely messing him up. Most good fathers would be like that to protect their daughters.

  9. jjjones • March 8, 2012 @ 11:14 AM

    I like your thinking Kim.

  10. Trevor • March 8, 2012 @ 11:49 AM

Don’t we mean Rihanna is too “Phat” as in she is too cool for school? I think she belongs on a season of Flavor of Love because she is such a thug azz biatch.

  11. TheTruth • March 8, 2012 @ 12:50 PM

I would have to disagree with Rihanna being mature, seeing short clips of her at the Grammys made me realize how childish and immature she seems to be. Her dad being okay with Chris Brown has me wondering if those pictures of her supposed beating were doctored at all.

  12. linda • March 8, 2012 @ 12:57 PM

Thank goodness her father doesn’t see her often. He saw her on the Grammys. What a piece of work. I can’t believe that he thinks Brown is a good catch. No wonder Rihanna is so messed up when it comes to Brown. Brown will beat her up again.

  13. Mary • March 8, 2012 @ 1:30 PM

I agree with David’s comment 100%. As for her father everyone needs a second chance, is this man talking about himself or Chris Brown? We all have skeletons in the closet! I hope she’s thinking with a clear head and stays away from this guy.

  14. kitty • March 8, 2012 @ 3:02 PM

I think that her father is a joke. Why would he say she was fat? That will mess with her head. She is and was totally within and healthy weight.
Sometimes you need to think before you open your mouth.

  15. Kim D. • March 8, 2012 @ 3:22 PM

Disturbing….but sadly not surprising that a dad that tells his daughter “your fat” is also ok with her boyfriend abusing her. And the excuse that he just made a mistake is the same excuse given to alot of women by their abusers to keep them under their control until the next time. I have 2 daughters and if someone their dating beats them up….well lets just say there would be hell to pay. Can you imagine is these 2 get back together and have kids?!?! The cycle of abuse continues……..

  16. Patagonian Wine Mixer • March 8, 2012 @ 3:55 PM

She is a putrid actor. Case closed.

  17. May • March 8, 2012 @ 4:18 PM

What is the matter with her father I have seen recent pictures of her and she is too skinny now and as for him being supportive of Chris Brown tells me a lot about him he is not a good father and he will beat her again, I feel sorry for her

  18. Arlene • March 8, 2012 @ 4:29 PM

A True West Indian father!!! Don’t get made at her, look who she has as a father. I have one of those till I disowned him. West Indian fathers (not all, but the one who allow do this type of wickedness to you) She needs to cut her father off, before it’s too late!

  19. lionne • March 8, 2012 @ 4:38 PM

Rihanna, stay away from your father ( he did beat your mother ) and stay away from Chris Brown as he is the same type as you have already seen and felt…those kind of men don’t change and they tend to stick for each other..Be very careful

  20. JSR • March 8, 2012 @ 4:49 PM

Rihanna`s Dad sounds messed up in the head.True, everyone makes mistakes. But ”nice guys”usually don`t beat the tar out of someone they love and care about.Rihanna`s father may still be her father and that`s one thing that will never change, but is she still an adult and she`s the only one who can make those kinds of decisions about her life, not him,not Chris Brown or anyone else.If she wants to go back to a guy(and that could mean getting involved with Brown again or just hanging out with him) who beat her WORSE than a dog(because if someone beats an animal like that, they could get thrown in jail),ultimately, that`s her decision.

I don`t know if Chris Brown has supposedly ”changed”,but I remember an old University Professor of mine, who used to be a Cop in both Canada and America, and he had seen enough cases of Domestic Abuse and Spousal Abuse, where the person had”changed” only to have it happen again and again, until it was too late and the victims of the abuse had been killed.I don`t believe that guys like Chris Brown magically change all of a sudden, just like that-it also helps enormously when they seek out professional help.Domestic abuse is serious stuff and Rihanna`s werido father should treat it that way,but like I said before, she`s an adult and she`s the one who has to make responsible decisions about how she wants to live her life-no one else can do that for her.

  21. BM • March 8, 2012 @ 5:05 PM

Rhianna’s father is a moron. Looks like she found herself a man (in Chris) just like dear old dad, as many women do. I wonder if Chris told her she was fat right before he rearranged her face. I wonder how many times her dear old dad beat her up, then called her names. Theres a correlation here people. Sounds like a book in the making somewhere down the road.

  22. Shuga • March 8, 2012 @ 6:26 PM

NONE OF YOU PEOPLE WERE THERE! NONE OF YOU PEOPLE KNOW THE PARTIES INVOLVED! NONE OF YOU KNOW MUCH OTHER THEN TO STAND IN JUDGMENT OF OTHER PEOPLE!!
GOD FORBID YOU MAKE A SERIOUS MISTAKE AS A 18-19 YEAR OLD. I HOPE THAT YOU’RE GIVEN THE CHANCE TO CORRECT AND CHANGE YOUR WAYS. CHRIS BROWN SERVED HIS TIME, APOLOGIZED TO EVERYONE THOUSANDS OF TIMES!!
IF RIHANNA HAS MOVED ON WITH HER LIFE, WHY DON’T YOU!!! SOME PEOPLE CHOOSE TO LIVE WITHOUT HATRED IN THEIR HEARTS AND FORGIVE!
YOU PEOPLE ACT LIKE SHE WAS BEATEN ON MONDAY AND THEY’RE FRIENDS ON FRIDAY. WOUNDS HEAL, PEOPLE GROW UP AND PEOPLE CHANGE.

  23. Trevor • March 8, 2012 @ 7:21 PM

Shut your mouth Shuga. Rihanna and Chris Brown are both trash.

  24. Garry • March 8, 2012 @ 7:29 PM

Arleen you are even a bigger AZZ than Rihana’s father. A true West Indian you call him? Well I am a true West Indian born and raised there even if I was university educated and now work professionally in North America, and I would NEVER i repeat NEVER condone my daughter, any female family member or any woman for that matter crawling back to an abuser! More importantly I would never forgive one of my sons if they ever laid a finger on any woman. My dad never did it and would be disgusted at those who did it. My grandad never did it. My male relatives would not even consider it. We are all TRUE West Indians so please stop you verbal diarrhea. When I last check Chris Brown was American, and Paul Bernado was Canadian, both women abusers, so does that make all true Canadian or American males abusers? Also Rihana’s father cannot be a true west Indian cuz all the sisters KNOW that West Indian men love their women with curves and a body, not heroin chic or that starving super model look that he seems to be advocating for Riri.

With a FATHER like that no wonder she has LOW self esteem
lets hope there is a better support system on the side

    ^ finally, somebody get’s it.

He’s demonstrated some rather pathetic parenting – make your daughter further subconscious of her body image, endorse her former abuser, demean your child publicly.

  27. Sophia,M.,McConnery • March 8, 2012 @ 8:33 PM

Oh and to call Rihanna fat is just plain stupid, dumb, blind, nasty,et cetera. She is a stick figure. If anything she is under weight!

  28. Britt • March 8, 2012 @ 9:38 PM

Omg people need to get over this. Family members call their kids fat all the time when they get lazy, its just a part of their job to keep their kid healthy and to save her the annoying tabloids talking about her weight in the future if she gets too big because that would be an even bigger embarassment. As for Chris he might have changed, as far as we knows he’s hit her once, if she wants to stay in the relationship she can go ahead, its her choice so you can stay the f**k out of it.

  29. Olive • March 8, 2012 @ 9:42 PM

Wow. Just wow. I can relate (sadly, since I lost respect 4 Rihanna when I learned she might b back with Chris Brown.) My dad ued 2 call me fat all the time and it hurt. Her dad needs 2 stopit since hes just screwing her up more. I mean, she went off the deep end after she got beaten up, and calling her fat isnt helping.

  30. nikki • March 8, 2012 @ 9:50 PM

as a bajan woman of rihanna’s age and knowing the family…maybe her daddy feels liek that because he knows he’s not her REAL daddy…yes…her daddy’s not Mr.fenty and that’s prob why he feels the need to denegrate her

  31. Alli • March 8, 2012 @ 10:47 PM

Wasn’t her dad an alcoholic and wasn’t he an abuser too? It’s no wonder she has the same taste in men. ie. Chris Brown

  32. My opinion • March 8, 2012 @ 11:11 PM

The only flaw Rihanna has is her bad choice in men.

  33. Marlita Perrault • March 9, 2012 @ 12:11 AM

What a sick, sick daddy she has. No wonder Rihanna is so mixed up with her choice in men. She thinks that it is a given that they are all abusive, physically or verbally.Poor girl doesn’t have a chance to get into a good relationship.

  34. Bella • March 9, 2012 @ 12:42 AM

I hear that when a West Indian person calls u fat it’s supposed to be a compliment, even tho the way the dad said it, didn’t seem it it was. When was this chick ever fat?? Dad needs to get eyes checked…and his brain, for saying that Chris Brown is a nice guy! He is crazy…if somebody beat up my daughter like that I would kill him, and Rihanna’a dad is trying to brush it off as a one-time mistake?? I’m sure Chris brown would do it again to the next girl, if he hasn’t already. he’s a woman beater and a loser

  35. Tayderhead • March 9, 2012 @ 3:48 AM

It all explains why she took Brown back. Girls hitch up with guys like their fathers. Her father’s an abuser and abuse is a normal way of life for her. It’s also very common for men to treat women like dirt and beat them in their culture.

  36. Monique • March 9, 2012 @ 9:58 AM

Rihanna, is not fat ! she is beautiful, sexy and awesome singer ! I love Rihanna she is my favourite girl rode model and celebrity !

  37. gbh999 • March 9, 2012 @ 12:01 PM

Now we know why she is so screwed up. Nuff said!!

  38. Sara • March 9, 2012 @ 8:44 PM

Chris is a nice guy!? WTF!!! Any dad worthy of the title ‘DAD’ would be murderous if a guy beat on his little girl. This guy needs to be drawn and quartered!!!!

  39. Mia • March 9, 2012 @ 9:19 PM

I agree with Shuga – people need to calm down and take a second to think about this. We don’t know what happened in regards of Rhianna & Chris Brown. I’m not supporting either one but I’m just saying we weren’t there and we don’t know what happened. Kind of like the whole Michael Jackson thing. So relax people and stop obsessing over other people’s lives especially celebs because we don’t know anything about these people.

  40. Cleo • March 10, 2012 @ 12:39 PM

No wonder she is with an abusive man, her dad doesn’t sound very supportive either.

I think she looks way too small in the pic above.

  41. BM • March 14, 2012 @ 12:13 PM

Well any of you ladies who think it’s ok for her dad to talk to her like this, or who think Chris can change, are probably either headed for or in an abusive relationship. And while we are calling names, has anybody taken a look at her dad? She must have gotten her looks from her mom cuz her dad is butt ugly. He looks like he lived hard and abused himself. Looks don’t usually matter to me because I believe what’s on the inside is more important but her dad is ugly on the inside if he believes it’s ok to talk to his daughter like that. Even if we don’t know what happened between Chris and Rhianna, beating her face to a pulp was just not acceptable. I have two daughters and if anyone ever touched either of them you would have to hold me back from pounding them. I don’t advocate violence but nobody hurts mama bear’s cubs without a fight.

  42. roseann • March 18, 2012 @ 11:46 PM

hi girlfriend it is your life date an talk too who ever makes you happy as barbadians does say **** the public do you love you girl

  43. ClAre • March 19, 2012 @ 4:29 AM

Rihanna is not fat and I don’t think heir dad should say this about his little girl this is how eating disorders start it as proven it because after rihannas dad said that she was fat she whent on. Diet love rihanna but I think she is very sensitive about heir wight
