Robert Pattinson to play lover of former movie mother

Although Twilight‘s Robert Pattinson is only 10 years younger than Reese Witherspoon, he made his film debut playing her son in Vanity Fair in 2004, when he was 17 and she was 27. The film followed Reese’s character through 20 years of her life, so she was playing older than 27 at the time. Fast forward six years, and the two are playing lovers in a new movie called Water for Elephants, which began filming this week. Robert plays a nearly graduated veterinary student during the Great Depression whose parents have just died in a car crash, leaving behind massive debt. He quits school and is hired by a circus to care for the animals. There, he meets Marlena (Reese), who does an equestrian act and is married to the abusive animal trainer. Should be interesting — don’t they make a cute couple?
