A press conference held at 2:00 p.m. today shed light on the tragic death of Robin Williams, 63. On Monday, a 911 call was sent from Robin’s home when his assistant found the actor unconscious. Robin was later reported to have died from asphyxia. Law enforcement revealed today that Robin hung himself with a belt and cuts were found on his wrist. Next to his body was a pocket knife with blood on it. Toxicology results are expected in two to six weeks, with an ongoing investigation.

The official report says, “An investigation into the cause, manner, and circumstances of the death is currently underway by the Investigations and Coroner Divisions of the Sheriff’s Office. A forensic examination is currently scheduled for August 12 with subsequent toxicology testing to be conducted.”

Over 20 years battling alcoholism, drugs and depression, Robin had recently checked into a rehab facility in Minnesota. On Monday, after news of the actor’s death spread, Robin’s rep released a statement, “Robin Williams passed away this morning. He has been battling severe depression of late. This is a tragic and sudden loss. The family respectfully asks for their privacy as they grieve during this very difficult time.” ~Andrea Hodgins

He was great in Stripes, Vacation, and Caddyshack. I am heartbroken that he will never get to make Ghostbusters 3 or another Vacation.

Please rethink your title next time. I hope you realize how insensitive you’re being. Not impressed.

Unfortunately Joe, it’s the truth and the truth needs to be told, especially in this tragedy. This could have been avoided if he’d been able to get help. If you know of anyone who shows signs of depression, please lend them a sympathetic ear and don’t tell them they’re just whining.

Your title, while honest, is rather graphic and could be really triggering for some of your fans and readers, many of whom are complaining on your Facebook page. One woman admits your posting triggered her PTSD.

Tribute is not really the place you’d expect to find more graphic content, so a trigger warning or a mask on the title might keep better rapport with your readership (not to mention, be better for their health).

Please retitle this article, and remove your facebook posting. In the future, hopefully your editors will prioritize the health of your readership over your CTR.

Joe is actually completely right in his statement. “Truth needing to be told” is your opinion of the media. Whether the gory details need to be told is debatable but the choice of title/ headline is absolutely inappropriate.
It does not give the reader the opportunity to decide if they would like to know the gory details and it most certainly turns all of us who do not, away. Tribute can expect a large loss in readers this way and also that most won’t bother to read the article if the title is already this graphic.
The fact that readers (younge, impressionable, and those unable to cope with such graphic imagery) have this information thrown in their faces is shameful, indeed.

I agree that the header for this story is very inappropriate and insensitive. Most readers already know that he committed suicide, why have such a graphic heading? It smacks of sensationalism.

Tribute “writers” are a bunch of morons.

  11. cindy • August 13, 2014 @ 11:04 PM

    Rest in peace

Yes, the header might be insensitive, but this is a GOSSIP website where they are going to post things to get readers attention.

then again, everyone has their own opinion
