Room swept the CRoom wins Best Film at the Canadian Screen Awards anadian Screen Awards tonight, winning nine awards in total, including Best Film, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Director, Best Actress for Brie Larson, Best Actor for nine-year-old Jacob Tremblay and Best Supporting Actress for Joan Allen.

Norm Macdonald did a fantastic job as host, proving that Canadians are among the funniest people in the world. He told the audience, “We’re coming to you live from Toronto, or as you cost-cutting location scouts call it — New York.”

He also decided the Canadian Screen Awards should have a name, like the Oscars/Academy Awards, and suggested they should be nicknamed the Candy, for John Candy. He asked all presenters and winners to address it as such, and the first presenter — Jacob Tremblay — did so, earning laughs from the appreciative audience.

Earlier today, Paul Gross‘s military feature Hyena Road won three awards for Overall Sound, Sound Editing and Visual Effects, while Brooklyn garnered two awards for Best Cinematography and Original Score.
