Russell Crowe to play Superman’s dad

Producer Christopher Nolan had been searching for a big name star to play the role of Jor-El, Superman’s biological father in Superman: Man of Steel, which was played in previous Superman movies by Marlon Brando — and it looks like he’s found his star in Russell Crowe, who’s currently in Los Angeles negotiating to play the role, according to Variety. Zach Snyder will direct the picture, which stars British actor Henry Cavill in the title role. Amy Adams, Kevin Costner and Diane Lane will also play lead roles in the film. Although production begins next month, producers are still looking for a name actress to play Superman’s biological mother. Any suggestions?

It looks like they will do the beginings again which we have seen before in previous films, I wish they would do something different but I might be jumping the gun and hope they will not do the Smallville years again. At least, get someone diffrent from Lex Luthor, Gene Hackman and Kevin Spacey played him well but we need someone with super powers.

Germain, I think info is out already that Zod and Luthor would both be in this revamp. I’m really hoping though, that Nolan and Co. will pull a fast one and include another lesser known villain into the mix. And I really really hope this turns out better than Sucker Punch.

Another Superman reboot? All credit to Nolan and crew, but this has been done.

While the big “S” remains iconic, the character just doesn’t have the depth or approachability of Batman, or Spiderman… or heck.. even egotistical Iron Man. At least those character have flaws. The “god” character type never makes for a good story.

Yeah The Truth, I think I read that somewhere and forgot about it, that’s good news, even though we saw them back in the 70’s version, they were good characters and with the right actor, can be really entertaining to watch.

The problem with Superman is that Clark Kent is too good in nature, almost flawless and Superman is too powerful and it almost makes the stories feel redundant because the only thing that makes him weak is Kryptonite so it comes back all the time.

I’m crossing my fingers for Doomsday to make a cameo, otherwise I don’t see how this can be an original movie.

I am a huge fan (tattoo to prove it), but I do agree. I thought Bryan Singer would have made a wayyy better movie. It was ok but could have been a lot better. Zack Snyder makes some decent flicks but will it all be CGI slow motion all fake? I hope he can do like Christopher Nolan and somehow make it feel like it can be based in reality. Make us feel like it’s critty and possible to have a superhero out there. Richard Donner is a fantastic job for 1978!
Russell Crowe as Jor-El…sure, ok I can see it. This movie will have major star power and likely a massive budget, I hope it lives up to expectations. It’s going to be a lot of paycheques to pay for and likely a lot of stunts and effects.
    Of course, I will watch.
As for the question on who should play his mother…must be able to have an accent lol. And she must be pretty hot for older chick. No names come to mind…yet.
