Ryan Gosling as Christian Grey?

Casting rumors are still flying fast and hard for Universal Pictures’ adaptation of the ridiculously popular erotica novel, Fifty Shades of Grey. The latest Hollywood star to get thrown into the mix? One Ryan Gosling, who has been notoriously picky about the kind of roles he’s been accepting over the last few years. According to Niall Leonard, the husband of the E.L. James (the author of the Grey trilogy), there may have been discussions already: the U.K.’s Now magazine is reporting that “last he heard,” Gosling was in the frame to play the manipulative billionaire in the adaptation.
Other reports aren’t so hasty to jump to conclusions, however: WetPaint‘s Gina Carbone says the quote may have been taken out of context. “It’s possible what Niall said was misunderstood,” Carbone says, “especially since the words about Ryan aren’t posted in a direct quote, but it’s not like Ry-guy’s name has never come up before.”
The fans, however, seem pleased by the news. “We are fans of the love story too, so we know exactly what qualities ‘FSOG’ fans see in different actors and actresses that make them appealing for the roles,” Lisa Parker of FiftyShadesFilm.com told MTV News. “Have you seen the Dunhill London ads featuring Henry Cavill? Do they not scream Fifty? Have you seen Ryan Gosling‘s GQ photo shoot? Grey silk tie anyone?” But fans will have to wait until an official announcement comes down the pipeline. I hope he doesn’t sign up to do that part. He is a super actor and 50 Shades is just a trashy novel.
I agree CRTG. These books are mindless drivel. I hope he doesn’t take this part, since I really enjoy watching him act. It would be a step down for him compared to other roles he’s taken. But really, I would lose respect for any actor who takes these roles. I will not be watching these movies.
One read was more than enough re the books…however I’d be prepared to view the movie 50 times if Ryan starred…
