Ryan Gosling: Being a Mousketeer was “depressing”

Ryan Gosling, 29, was interviewed for the November issue of Interview magazine by Steve Carell and revealed some interesting things about himself. He said began his career at the age of eight, singing at weddings. At 12, he joined Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and Justin Timberlake as a Mouseketeer on The All New Mickey Mouse Club. But he claims it was disheartening. “It was kind of depressing because when I got there, they realized that I wasn’t really up to snuff in comparison with what some of the other kids were able to do,” he explains, saying that eventually, “I would just come in at the beginning of the show and then come back at the end, which was disheartening… I didn’t end up working as much as I wanted to on the show, so I had a lot of free time.” Instead, Ryan hung out with adult Disney staffers. He says, “I remember there was one guy who I became friends with… He took us to a place called Pleasure Island, which was for adults to go after the kids had their days. It was geared toward an older crowd. It was completely inappropriate, now that I’m thinking about it, but he would sneak us in and we would go to a club there called 8 Trax and dance with the secretaries, who were grinding on us . . . Now, that sounds completely inappropriate. I can’t imagine how it was possible.”
