NBC affiliate KSL, located in Utah, has removed Ryan Murphy‘s upcoming comedy series, The New Normal, from their fall line-up. The series revolves around two gay partners who want to have a baby and Murphy, who created the hit series Glee, believes in the relevance of the show’s premise, saying, “These days, families come in all forms – single dads, double moms, sperm donors, egg donors, one-night-stand donors… It’s 2012 and anything goes.” But apparently KSL president Jeff Simpson doesn’t agree, stating, “For our brand, this program simply feels inappropriate on several dimensions, especially during family viewing time.” It probably doesn’t help that one of the show’s stars, Andrew Rannells, is the star of The Book of Mormon, the Tony-winning play that pokes fun at the Mormon religion — Utah is known to be home to a lot of Mormon families. Rannells’ co-star, Ellen Barkin, shared her thoughts on the ban, tweeting, “Shame on u @kslcom not airing @NBCTheNewNormal So L&O SVU (rape & child murder) is ok? But loving gay couple having a baby is inappropriate?” The series is set to premiere on NBC on September 11. ~Morgan Bates
