The Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History announced yesterday that Ryan O’Neal has donated memorabilia from Farrah Fawcett‘s career — including the red swimsuit she wore in her iconic 1976 poster — to their Division of Culture and Arts. Other items include her personal Charlie’s Angels script book, a Farrah Fawcett swimsuit jigsaw puzzle, a “Farrah Phenomenon” 1976 edition of TV Guide, a Charlie’s Angels 1976 edition of Time magazine, an original 1977 Farrah Fawcett doll and a “Farrah’s Glamour Center” hairstyling doll. The items will go on display this summer. “It’s an honor to see Farrah’s famous red bathing suit donated to the Smithsonian Institution, celebrating her place in pop culture,” said O’Neal in a statement. “The swimsuit is exactly where it belongs, and I know Farrah is looking down on us today flashing that big smile that we all loved.” Farrah died of cancer in June 2009.

She was still hot when she got older. Beautiful person. And iconic in so many ways. Nice to see her things in a museum and not just in a box in a closet somewhere.

There are so many ways in which this donation is perfect. Firstly because Ryan is amazing. Secondly because his tv ‘daughter’ works at the Smithsonian. And Thirdly because Farrah should be remembered.
