Sandra Oh to host the Genie Awards

Sandra OhThe Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television announced Monday that Sandra Oh, best known for playing Dr. Cristina Yang on Grey’s Anatomy, will host the 28th Annual Genie Awards. Oh, a Canadian, has won two Genie Awards of her own, in addition to a Golden Globe, a Screen Actors Guild Award, and a Cannes FIPA d’Or for Best Actress. Sara Morton, CEO of the 4,000 member Canadian Academy said, “It is an absolute honour to have Sandra Oh as the host for the Genie Awards. Her award-winning accomplishments as an actor in film, TV and theater, both at home and abroad, are a testament to the kind of talent that Canada has become famous for around the world.” Nominated films include Sharkwater, Eastern Promises, Away From Her, Silk and Shake Hands with the Devil. The hour-long broadcast airs on E! and IFC on Monday, March 3rd at 10pm ET/PT.
