Scarlett Johansson joins new Hitchcock drama

Hollywood starlet Scarlett Johansson has officially signed on to star in the upcoming drama Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho, an in-depth, behind-the-scenes look at the making of Hitchcock’s classic horror film, Psycho. Johansson will be playing the role of actress Janet Leigh, who was the original star of the 1960 film and whose chilling shower scene has become one of the most recognized in movie history. The story for the new drama is based on Stephen Rebello’s book of the same name, which tracked Hitchcock’s filmmaking career and how he dug up his own financing for Psycho because no else wanted to touch it. The movie ended up being a huge sucess — it earned several Academy Award nominations, spawned two sequels, a prequel, a remake in 1998, and a ton of modern-day spin-offs and spoofs.

Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho will also star Anthony Hopkins as the iconic filmmaker, Helen Mirren as his wife and James D’Arcy as actor Anthony Perkins (who played the role of the killer, Norman Bates, in the original Psycho). The release date for the film has not yet been set.
