American Idol winner Scotty McCreery‘s new single, I Love You This Big, not only reached No. 1 at iTunes and and No. 3 on the Billboard Digital Songs chart, it debuted at No. 11 on the Hot 100 chart and at No. 32 on the Country Songs chart, which is the best debut for a first single by a new artist in 21 years, according to Billboard. The song hit the charts just a week after he was named the Season 10 winner. “I am humbled and shocked by this news,” McCreery, 17, said in a statement. “I can’t tell you what it means to me to be on the same charts as my musical heroes. I want to thank my fans and especially country radio for their support. I continue to be amazed by everything that has happened to me in such a short time.” Runner-up Lauren Alaina, 16, isn’t doing too badly either — her single, “Like My Mother Does,” debuted at No. 20 on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart and No. 49 on the Hot Country Songs chart. Both Scotty and Lauren are currently in Nashville working on their debut albums, before beginning the Idols Live! summer tour on July 6th.
