Sean Penn drops out of Stooges

By Alexandra Heilbron on June 17, 2009 | 14 Comments

Robin Wright Penn and Sean PennSean Penn‘s rep confirmed this week that the Oscar-winning actor has withdrawn from starring roles in The Three Stooges and Cartel. Penn has also withdrawn a petition to divorce his wife, Robin Wright Penn. The couple, married since 1996, separated in December 2007, but reconciled some months later. Penn filed for divorce this year on April 24th,  but withdrew it a month later, saying he’d made an “arrogant mistake.” Sean and Robin have two children, an 18-year-old daughter and a 15-year-old son. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Penn is taking up to a year off from his film career to concentrate on his family. His rep, Mara Buxbaum, said: “We informed both productions that Sean was not available now. If, for whatever reason, the start dates on these productions were to be postponed, Sean would happily remain involved.”

    But….he’d be PERFECT!
I can just imagine how all this separating, filing for divorce, and getting back together is affecting the kids. Must be pretty hard on them.

I think if they are going to stay together, then he is doing the right thing by focusing 100% on his family. Do I think they will last? Absolutely not! Will he regret this decision later? Most likely.

like Sean Penn a lot and hope this works for them both…good choice, Sean…

always good to see people putting their focus on family first…

It’s all on the brink, time or no time, but a matter of.
Btw, think he’s too old to play a Stooge.

not a big Penn fan. If he is focused on his family, then good, but if he is so arrogent and hot headed that he put in for his divorce so quick to withdraw shortly after, well, maybe he can focus on his temper/attitude over the next year as well.

Love Sean Penn (esp. in Mystic River), love Robin Wright, hate the stooges. I’m glad this marriage is getting one more chance.

This movie with the right director would have been box office gold and Jim Carrey and Sean Penn in the same movie come on people who wouldnt want to see that…..its to bad this movie could have put him back on the mainstream map (i dont consider Milk mainstream that film reaked independent feature). maybe he didnt want to be back in the spotlight again i dont know but im a huge fan and the roles hes choosen lately r awesome dont get me wrong i loved Mystic River,Milk, I am Sam all these movies were well made and directed and some of my favs. My favourite Sean Penn movies r still The Asassination Of Richard Nixon and Oliver Stones U-turn. Cant wait to see what he does next.

the only way i’ll forgive him for dropping out is if its really to focus on his family. he’s starting to annoy me by filing for divorce then taking it back. i feel for robin wright penn. i still hope they work out though! i think they’re great together and they’re both fantastic actors! i wonder who’ll take over his role now…

What would you think of Vince Vaughn?

  11. Nancy • June 19, 2009 @ 9:20 PM

Oh lily, I love Vince Vaughn! He is so funny but I take him to be the “slob” type in real life..you know, throws his clothes all over; farts and burps really loud and doesn’t care who hears, LOL. I can’t say that is the way he is for sure but that is the impression that I get from him.

  12. lily • June 19, 2009 @ 9:35 PM

TOTALLY agree Nancy! Thats why I see him as a perfect stooge–he’s hillarious and totally lovable. I’d go see the movie for sure (and I HATED the three stooges) if Vince was starring in it!

I think he seems like a funny, nice guy, but definitely not my type.

Hmmm, you’re right lily, he would be really good in that movie. Actually when I was a kid, I did like watching the three stooges.
