Sean Penn wishes cancer on critics

sean_pennSean Penn has hit back at those who criticized his trip to Haiti, saying he hopes they get rectal cancer. The Oscar-winning star visited the island in January after it was left devastated by an earthquake. He was accompanied by 11 doctors and during his stay he launched a private Haiti relief organization. Critics were quick to lash out at celebrities who made high-profile trips to the stricken nation, claiming they were more interested in boosting their image than assisting those in need. However, Sean denies he had any selfish motives. “I guess I’ve been so away from it all at our tent camp in Haiti that I haven’t had an awful lot of time to pay attention to them,” he said in an interview to air this weekend on CBS News’ Sunday Morning show. “You know, do I hope that those people die screaming of rectal cancer? Yeah. You know, but I’m not going to spend a lot of energy on it.”

And left out of this article, is that he took both his 16 & 18 year old kids with him to see and help in Haiti, first hand. Just the other day, he saved a Haitian woman and her child from under the rubble of a building. He took them to hospital to be checked over; he waited for them and knowing they had no place to go, took them to where he and his kids are staying.

Do I think he should have said what he said, no, I don’t but, these critics should stop saying the stuff they are saying too because people just want to help, whether they are celebs or not. It is human nature to care and want to help those in need.

We can never actually know if publicity was at all a motive for Sean but even if it was, “So what”? If it takes a bit of selfishness to get people in hard times the help they need then who gives a rats A$$? Personally I think this is the case but I do wonder why someone having an opinion makes it so they deserve to die of rectal cancer. I mean for someone that was in Haiti to help to stop the suffering that is being caused, then to turn around and wish suffering on people just for saying something that may not have been thought through. Just makes me wonder a bit if the reason he seems so hostile is because the critics hit the nail on the head. What do the rest of you think?

hmmmm…i think its wrong that he said he hopes they get rectal cancer but i dont believe he meant it. people say rude, careless things when they are angry. if i helped someone out of the goodness of my heart and everyone told the world repeatedly that it was all for my image, id be mad too. id probably say some terrible things in retaliation. (spelling?) wouldnt you?

I don’t think he was serious when he said that, but probably out of frustration with the critics. I agree with Joshua, whether he did or didn’t go to Haiti out of selfishness doesn’t matter… he still did, and helped!

Somehow I dont think Sean Penn NEEDS more attention or any help from the reporters to get any attention. His work in film stands on its own, his ” way ” with the media also stands on its own…He has taken time to assist those who have been affected by devastation because he obviously feels he wishes to give back for his good fortunes.
How sad is it that no matter WHO gives help, there is always someone thinking that its a photo op…which of course he detests…hmm..with that kind of reporting its a wonder there arent more jobs available because I would fire this guys ass.

I laughed pretty hard when I read this article. I think it’s pretty funny that Sean Penn wants those critics to get rectal cancer. I also think that the people who are commenting that Sean Penn shouldn’t have said that, need to get a sense of humor. It was obviously more of a joke than anything, and he was only defending his own good nature. Considering the circumstances I probably would’ve said the exact same thing about those people. Sean Penn is a great man who is giving his own personal time, money, and energy to help those who really need it. Regardless of his motives, he’s down in the dirt working very hard to help the Haitian people. I think anyone who is going to criticize that definitely deserves rectal cancer.

give and take, it all benefits him if he does good work, whether that is his intention or not. As for what he said, not good, but he does have anger management issues, we all know that.
